The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi:
Koromiko House is a leading mental health respite service on the North Shore, providing a safe, calm, and nurturing home environment for up to seven guests 24/7. Guests stay with us on average between 4 – 10 days.
This role is varied and unique as you will be responding to the needs of the guests staying with us. You will need to have a holistic focus and the people skills to support people in their recovery by encouraging good routine, listening and supporting with strategies when they are distressed or anxious, administering of medications and to respond to any challenging situations as they arise.
You will also be doing practical household tasks such as preparing meals, cleaning tasks and admin jobs such as receiving referrals, liaising with clinical teams, and other support agencies when possible.
The Registered Health Professional position is a hands-on role with a mix of community work as well as coaching and mentoring our Community Support Worker team. This position is 24 hours per week on a Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday with a level of flexibility which will be required to meet the needs of tangata whai ora and support of on-duty staff through an on-call roster.
You | Mōu:
- New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Social Worker or DAPAANZ-registered
- Sound clinical judgment
- Comprehensive leadership skills and ability to stay calm under pressure
- Have a passion for mentoring others
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- A clean full NZ drivers licence
- NZ resident or a valid NZ work visa
- Ability to build rapport and empathise with people from diverse backgrounds
- Have a sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be able to demonstrate bicultural concepts in practice, or willingness to learn
- If you speak Te Reo Maori it is bonus!
- An interest in Māori and Pasifika people’s customs and cultural norms
